Deel 1: De AI-weegschaal – Waarom een stevig fundament de motor van innovatie is

In onze vorige blog over labeling zagen we het al: de praktijk is weerbarstig. Een informatiehuishouding op orde krijgen is geen kwestie van één knop omzetten. Het is een samenspel van beleid, techniek en misschien wel het moeilijkste; gedragsverandering.

Met de razendsnelle komst van AI, zoals Microsoft 365 Copilot, is dit onderwerp van 'belangrijk' naar 'acuut' verschoven. Medewerkers wachten namelijk niet tot de IT-afdeling het groene licht geeft.

De behoefte om slimmer, sneller en efficiënter te werken is simpelweg te groot. Je hoort het op de wandelgangen al: "Ik denk niet meer na, dat doet AI wel voor mij." Dat brengt ons bij een cruciaal dilemma. Moet je alles dichttimmeren voordat je begint, of gooi je de deuren open?

De valstrik van de twee uitersten

Wachten tot je governance 100% perfect is, je labeling tot op het laatste document klopt en elk beleidspunt is afgetikt, duurt lang. Te lang.

In de tussentijd gaan medewerkers zelf op zoek naar oplossingen, vaak buiten de veilige bedrijfsomgeving om (Shadow AI). Stilstand is hier een serieus risico.

Aan de andere kant: zonder kaders beginnen is vragen om problemen. AI is namelijk een vergrootglas. Als je digitale fundering scheef staat, zal AI die scheefgroei alleen maar versnellen en zichtbaar maken.

Onze visie op deze weegschaal:

1. Bouw aan je fundament: Neem de tijd voor de inrichting van je Microsoft 365-omgeving. Dit is geen vertraging, maar een investering in veiligheid.

2. Kies kwaliteit boven haast: Maak beslissingen die over drie jaar nog steeds standhouden.

3. Haal expertise in huis: De techniek achter AI-rechten en datasecurity is complex. Een specialist helpt je om de "legacy-fouten" uit het verleden op te sporen.

Hoe we je verder meenemen

In deze reeks kijken we naar drie pijlers die onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden zijn:

1. Beleid bepalen: Wat willen we wel en wat niet?

2. Labeling en classificatie: Welke data hebben we eigenlijk in huis?

3. Technische inrichting: Want beleid zonder techniek is slechts papier.

Part 1: The AI Scale – Why a solid foundation is the engine of innovation

In our previous blog about labeling, we already saw that putting this into practice is difficult. Getting your information management in order is not a matter of flipping a switch. It requires a combination of policy, technology, and perhaps the most difficult part: behavioral change.

With the rapid advent of AI, such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, this topic has shifted from ‘important’ to ‘urgent’. Employees are not waiting for the IT department to give the green light.

The need to work smarter, faster, and more efficiently is simply too great. You can already hear it in the corridors: “I don't think anymore, AI does that for me.” This brings us to a crucial dilemma. Should you nail everything shut before you start, or throw the doors open?

The trap of two extremes

Waiting until your governance is 100% perfect, your labeling is correct down to the last document, and every policy point has been ticked off takes a long time. Too long.

In the meantime, employees look for solutions themselves, often outside the safe corporate environment (Shadow AI). Stagnation is a serious risk here.

On the other hand, starting without a framework is asking for trouble. AI is like a magnifying glass. If your digital foundation is crooked, AI will only accelerate that crookedness and make it visible.

Our take on this trade-off:

1. Build your foundation: Take the time to set up your Microsoft 365 environment. This isn't a delay, but an investment in security.

2. Choose quality over speed: Make decisions that will still hold up in three years' time.

3. Bring in expertise: The technology behind AI rights and data security is complex. A specialist can help you identify any “legacy errors” from the past.
